What to expect

This portal has been developed by BANKSETA to assist current and past employees of the banking and microfinance sectors to access Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) on a self-service basis.

This is what you can expect from the RPL & CAT process:

  • To get started you need to register on the RPL Portal - This is where you will provide us with your personal information;
  • Once you have registered and confirmed your email address you can Login on the RPL Portal;
  • The portal will take you through the easy step-by-step process;
  • You will provide us with personal information such as your contact details, your qualifications and what internal courses you have done with your current and previous employers. (This information will only be shared with BANKSETA and the provider you eventually select to do your RPL through. Please note the POPI notice at the bottom of the website.);
  • The portal will show you what credits you have accumulated and how they relate to specific BANKSETA qualifications that you can complete though Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL);
  • If you wish to continue with the RPL process you will provide us with more information by completing the National Learner Records Database (NLRD) questionnaire;
  • You will be required to upload certain documents such as:
    • A certified copy of your ID book;
    • Supporting documents for your high school qualification (National Senior Certificate);
    • Supporting documents for your highest qualification (if any);
    • Supporting documents for the internal courses you have done (official internal course transcript on employer letterhead);
  • An RPL advisor will review and verify the documents you have uploaded and send you an offical exemption letter;
  • You will then complete the RPL pre-assessment which involves answering one question per unit standard that you need to complete;
  • You will be advised which unit standards you can comfortably complete through RPL and which ones coiuld be better achieved through training;
  • If you want to continue you will watch the 'Preparation for RPL' video, which is followed by a short online multiple choice test to make sure you understand the RPL process;
  • Then you select an RPL provider from the list and they will be sent your details. They will contact you. If you do not hear from them please open a support case and they will be reminded by the portal;
  • You will be asked to:
    • Upload your CV;
    • Provide a recent photograph of yourself (if you have not already done so, this is so the provider can verify your identity);
    • Choose one of the accredited RPL providers. They will be sent your details and they will contact you to arrange your RPL. (If you do not hear from them please open a support case and they will be reminded by the portal);
